Slash your water bills
Watering
your garden by hose uses 600 to 900 litres of water per hour. A garden
sprinkler can use up to 1500 litres of water per hour. Clearly an
enormous volume of water is used by most gardeners in an effort to
maintain a healthy garden. The problem is that over 80% of this water can be wasted, Because of water run off to areas where it is not needed by plants and through evaporation.
Because
such a large proportion of household water is used in the garden, and
now that the principle of 'user pays' has become entrenched in the
philosophy of most water supply authorities, this means that a large
amount of your money is also being wasted.
The Watering Probe,
a product developed in Australia, reduces this wastage by feeding water
beneath the surface of the soil, soaking the soil around the roots of
your plants and no where else. The Watering Probe is simply attached
to a garden hose and the nozzle is inserted into the soil; directing
water only to where it is needed by your plants.
We would be
very surprised if any gardener did not at least save the cost of the
Watering Probe on just one water bill over summer; and this is not even
the best advantage of the Watering Probe.
The best advantage is healthier plants
By
ensuring that your plants get enough water when and where they need it
you will reap the rewards in the form of faster growing, better
flowering and more vibrant looking plants.
Most watering only
wets the surface layer of soil and this process promotes shallow roots
and spindly plant growth. By injecting water to the roots of your
plants, not only does this save you water and money; it also encourages
stronger, deeper root growth and healthier plants.

Additional Benefits
Because the watering probe waters the roots of your plants you will now be able to:
-
grow plants on slopes where surface watering would normally run off without wetting the soil.
-
grow plants in paving where there is not enough soil surface area for an adequate supply of water to penetrate
-
reduce black spot by watering the roots, not the foliage of plants such as roses, tomatoes, azaleas etc.
The Watering Probe is also great for getting water into compost heaps.
How often do you need to water?
Nothing
is more important for your plants ability to thrive than water, and
adequate watering would save the majority of plants that are lost in
gardens each year. The best way to tell whether your garden needs water
is to feel the soil 2 to 3 inches (5 to 8 cm) below the surface. How
often you should water will depend on factors such as the type of soil,
how well the garden is mulched, and the amount of sunlight your plants
are exposed to. Assuming adequate mulching and summer temperatures up
to the late 20s C then watering once a week should be enough. However
with full sun and temperatures in the 30s C then you may need to water
every second day.
Don't forget that a thorough watering
around the roots of your plants with a Watering Probe once a week is
far more beneficial than spraying the soil surface every day.
